Video. Girondins de – Avranches: Carroll strikes again, the Girondins continue

With a team that has completed each other and is starting to get to know each other, Bruno Irles’ men have made their strongest start to the season. With a dense and advancing block, aggression and interesting reversals to hit two hard-hitting wingers (Diallo and Bahassa), they quickly put their mark on the match. And they were therefore able to count on the inevitable Andy Carroll to make it happen. After good work from Bahassa and a cross to the penalty spot, the Englishman saw his first recovery blocked by Bourdin but did not miss his second chance with composure (1-0, 22nd).

He only missed the second goal to fully validate this good first half. But Bahassa (4th), Carroll (29th) and Louveau (49th) saw their tight angle recoveries brush the post. In control on the defensive level, the Bordelais will only have seen their opponent shoot at Diabaté’s goal on long shots.

The second period confirmed the change in appearance at the end of the first, with the Normans taking majority control of the ball without really being dangerous. With a now known pattern – direct play towards Carroll deflection for a player thrown around him – the Girondins even created the best chances in transition but Bahassa (50th) and Merdji (66th) came up against goalkeeper Marfaing.

Failing to make the difference, the opposing pressure increased a notch in the last 10 minutes, but with the only heat being a shot from Lambrabette released by Diabaté without consequence (86th) and a series of corners. Avranchais Delpech sacrificed himself by tackling Merdji going alone on goal against, leaving his team at 10 against 11 for the last minutes.
