Jets crush Sharks 8-3

(Winnipeg) Nikolaj Ehlers and Cole Perfetti each scored two goals to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a dominating 8-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night.

Perfetti added two assists while Ehlers also contributed a goal.

The Jets remain undefeated this season with a 4-0-0 record.

Vladislav Namestnikov and Neal Pionk each had a goal and three assists. Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey also found the back of the net.

Former Jets forward Tyler Toffoli scored on a power play in the first period. The veteran also assisted on Fabian Zetterlund’s goal in the third period.

Luke Kunin scored the other goal for the Sharks (0-2-3), who have still not won this season.

Connor Hellebuyck, who was at his 500e starting in the National Hockey League, made 19 saves.

Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 13 of 18 shots before being replaced by Vitek Vanecek, who made 15 saves.

Ducks 3 – Avalanche 4 (prolongation)

Nathan MacKinnon scored in overtime to give the Colorado Avalanche their first victory of the season, 4-3, against the Anaheim Ducks.

Leo Carlsson and Ryan Strome gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, but Casey Mittelstadt cut the gap to 2-1 in the second period.

Ross Colton scored twice in the third period to give the Avalanche a 3-2 lead, but Troy Terry, with 13 seconds left, scored his third goal of the campaign to send everyone into overtime.

Mikko Rantanen had three assists in the victory while rookie Nikolai Kovalenko got his first NHL point.

Alexandar Georgiev stopped 17 shots while Lukas Dostal was brilliant in the defeat, with 45 saves.

Hurricanes 4 – Penguins 1

Martin Necas had a goal and an assist to help the Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1.

Jackson Blake, a 21-year-old rookie, tied the game 1-1 with just over six minutes left in the first period. It was his second goal this season and the first of four in a row for the Hurricanes in this game.

Necas and Shayne Gostisbehere scored on the power play in the second period and Jack Roslovic gave his team a three-goal lead in the third period.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi had two assists.

The Hurricanes defense played very well when the Penguins had the puck, so much so that Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin didn’t take a single shot towards the net.

Drew O’Connor responded for the Penguins with his third goal of the campaign.

Frederik Andersen made 25 saves for the Hurricanes while his opposite number Joel Blomqvist stopped 35 shots in the defeat.
