The ranking of the highest paid footballers in 2024, with Mbappé in the top 5

Forbes magazine published this Thursday its Top 10 highest paid footballers of the year 2024. After his departure to Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé is not the highest paid Frenchman while Cristiano Ronaldo still sits at the top of the world since his golden exile in Saudi Arabia.

Having left Saint-Germain during the off-season, Kylian Mbappé chose to join Real Madrid to try to win his first Champions League title. The French striker also agreed to reduce his annual salary (around 70 million euros gross per season in Paris according to different estimates) in order to realize his childhood dream and imitate his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. The captain of the team will therefore still have to wait before potentially becoming the highest paid footballer in the world.

According to information from Forbes magazine, Kylian Mbappé is only in fifth place in the ranking of the highest paid players. If the American media estimated his salaries at nearly 64.4 million euros for the year 2024, the Frenchman would pocket around 18.4 million euros off the field. In the same way, Forbes does not take into account the possible payment of 55 million euros in unpaid salaries and bonuses from PSG.

A Top 5 with a strong Saudi accent, Cristiano Ronaldo at the top

With around 82.9 million euros in estimated annual income, Kylian Mbappé is not the first Frenchman in this ranking. In front of him, Karim Benzema, who plays for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, would see his finances reach nearly 95.8 million euros in 2024. An amount still far from the king in this area: Cristiano Ronaldo.

With an XXL salary at Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia), estimated at 202.6 million euros, to which are added his income off the field (59.8 million euros), the Portuguese is well ahead of the second highest paid player in the Forbes ranking. A certain Lionel Messi and his 124.3 million euros. But unlike CR7, La Pulga would receive more money thanks to its sponsorship contracts than thanks to its emoluments at Inter Miami in MLS. The Argentinian is even the only Top 10 player to have a salary lower than his advertising contracts.

Also particularly well paid in Saudi Arabia since his departure from PSG to Al-Hilal in 2023, Neymar completes the podium and occupies third place in the ranking of the best paid footballers in 2024 with a total reaching 101.3 million euros.
