Ghana in chaos after its new fiasco

Ghana experienced a real earthquake during this international break. After a chaotic start to qualifying for CAN 2025 with a draw and a defeat in two days, the Black Stars absolutely had to take points against the modest Sudan team. For this gathering, Ghanaian coach Otto Addo could count on a squad that was still very competitive with Ernest Nuamah, Mohammed Kudus, Mohammed Salisu and even Jordan Ayew. However, Ghana has confirmed its major crisis which has lasted for many months and is causing serious concern.

The teammates of former player Alexander Djiku completely missed it. At home, under intense heat and in a full stadium, Ghana was unable to break the Sudanese barrier. Despite a substantial offensive armada, Otto Addo’s men failed to prove dangerous and therefore ended up with a sad 0-0. The start of a very big fiasco since during the return match, Ghana lost to everyone’s surprise (0-2) and is therefore in 3rd place in the ranking with 2 small points in 4 days.

A real fiasco for this selection with four continental coronations. Even more so when we know that the CAN has now grown to 24 teams. Proof of the enormous fall of this giant of the continent, Ghana was the second country having participated the most times in the CAN (23 times). The Black Stars remained on 16 consecutive appearances. Sudan taints the Black Stars’ chances at the CAN. “So they will need results in their last two matches to have any hope. They approached yesterday’s match with caution, not knowing what the Sudanese had in store for them. wrote the Ghanaian Times after the meeting.

The local press is clearly worried and even seems to no longer believe in it at all for this CAN. A huge fiasco for a gifted and talented generation embodied by Mohammed Kudus, Mohammed Salisu and Ernest Nuamah. Perhaps the biggest generation since the golden era of 2010 and that run to the World Cup in South Africa. But for all that, coach Otto Addo still seems to have support in the country. “If Otto Addo cannot claim infallibility, he is not the problem and he could even be part of the long-term solution. The Ghana FA signed Addo for 34 months and sent the message that it was a long-term marriage. (…) Ghanaian football is in a difficult situation, the defeat against Sudan marking the extent of the fall but if the country wants to rebuild the most expensive sport, Otto Addo, who learned his trade in Germany, must be part of the process”écrit GhanaWeb this Wednesday morning. But for the supporters, the selection must undergo a major cleaning up to get off to a good start. Because for almost 6 years, Ghana has been sinking and disappointing. This time, it’s probably one too many…
