Thanksgiving meal: the Alouettes continue a wonderful tradition at the Bon Accueil Mission

There were smiles on the faces of the Montreal Alouettes players, but also on those of the people to whom they served a hearty Thanksgiving meal on Monday at the Welcome Hall Mission.

It has become a real tradition for the Sparrows’ color bearers. These are the players who undertook this good deed in the early 2000s, at the initiative of quarterback Anthony Calvillo.

“In the world of football, we talk a lot about traditions, and this is a very important tradition for us. It’s the 20e consecutive year that we come here to serve meals after our Thanksgiving game,” explained Alouettes President and CEO Mark Weightman.

The football players quickly moved to Saint-Henri to serve people experiencing homelessness, after they won their afternoon match at Percival-Molson stadium. The smiles were even more numerous after a 19-12 victory over the Ottawa Rouge et Noir.

“They are professionals, so they will always force a smile even if we don’t win the match,” said Weightman. Indeed, after a great victory like today, there are a lot of smiles on our lips. It makes things easier, that’s for sure.”
