Accused of rape, former Premier League player arrested then exonerated

Accused of rape, a 24-year-old former Premier League player was arrested and taken into custody last week. He was initially released on bail, before the case was dismissed on Monday.

An unnamed former Premier League player was arrested after rape charges, then released after the case was dismissed. The British daily The Sun initially revealed the affair this Sunday. The 24-year-old, who played for several English clubs, played in the Premier League and for his national team, was interviewed by the police.

He had been accused of rape since Wednesday by a young woman he met in a bar whom he then invited to a five-star hotel in London where he was staying. The young woman appeared at the hotel reception to explain that she had been raped and beaten by the player. The police immediately launched an investigation.

The case was dismissed

When questioned, the player denied the facts and was initially released on bail, pending further investigation. The complainant, in her twenties, was then followed by specialists. The police particularly wanted to view the hotel’s video surveillance images to find out more.

This Monday, the Metropolitan Police which operates in Greater London, however, revealed that the case had been closed. A spokesperson confirmed the progress of the investigation: “A man was arrested following accusations of rape. He was taken into police custody and then released on bail. The case has since been closed.”
