Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner winners – rts.ch

Olympic champions in , Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner won the wheelchair marathon in Chicago, in the United States. They had already won in Berlin at the end of September.

Hug, 38 years old and star of his discipline, won the event for the fifth time, in 1h25’54. He beat the American Daniel Romanchuk and the Japanese Tomoki Suzuki in the final.

Among the women, Debrunner broke away from the first kilometers. The 29-year-old Thurgau raced alone in the lead to finish in 1h36’09.

Kenyan John Korir wins solo

The Kenyan John Korir won the Chicago marathon, one of the six “majors” of the season, in 2 hours 2 minutes and 43 seconds, succeeding world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who died in February at the age of 23 in a road accident. Korir ran the first 30 kilometers in the group of favorites, before accelerating that none of his opponents could counter. He crossed the line more than a minute and a half ahead of his first pursuers.

Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich smashes the world record

Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich shattered the women’s marathon world record by almost 2 minutes, winning in Chicago in 2 hours 9 minutes and 56 seconds.

The old record was held by Ethiopian Tigist Assefa, who completed the 42.195 km in 2 hours 11 minutes and 53 seconds on September 24, 2023 in Berlin.
