BBrussels, it is now prohibited to combine the function of mayor or alderman with a regional or federal deputy seat. Some will therefore have to make a choice, the day after October 13.
In Wallonia, the ban on accumulation is variable. Mayors and aldermen cannot, as a bonus, sit as Walloon deputies, unless they are among the most popular regional elected representatives – the 25% of the most popular elected representatives from each political group can combine, the calculation is measured via the “ penetration rate”, i.e. the number of preference votes reduced to the number of votes cast in the constituency. Some parties also impose stricter internal rules, which further limit accumulation.
In Flanders, it is possible to hold mandates as deputy, mayor or alderman.
