Another injury that embarrasses the Canucks

Defenseman Tyler Myers had to leave Friday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks early in the first period following a freak fall, which is not comforting for an already lame team.

The giant fullback was trying to check Joel Farabee of the Philadelphia Flyers when he collapsed on the ice. Visibly in pain, the 34-year-old veteran was unable to get up on his own. Watch in main video.

Myers quickly received treatment from Canucks doctors and after about 90 seconds, he was able to return to the locker room with the help of his teammates. The 6’8” giant didn’t put any weight on his right leg.

After the game which ended in a 3-2 shootout victory for the Flyers, head coach Rick Tocchet was not reassuring about the state of health of his defender.

“For Myers, I hope we avoided the worst, but I’m not sure,” he said at a press conference.

Since this injury occurred just two minutes after the initial whistle, the other members of the Canucks had to work harder. Captain Quinn Hughes spent 31:29 on the ice and Noah Juulsen temporarily had to take minutes on the first pair.

In Vancouver, Tocchet already has to deal without goaltender Thatcher Demko and forward Dakota Joshua. Myers’ injury could open the door to Quebec colossus Vincent Desharnais.
