VIDEO. Why could Fifa propose a third transfer window before the Club World Cup?

A third transfer market could soon emerge, exclusively for clubs participating in the Club World Cup. A Fifa initiative which aims to offer more flexibility in recruitment.

The International Federation (Fifa) unveiled an unprecedented project on October 3: the establishment of a third transfer window period before the Club World Cup. This “exceptional transfer window” would exclusively concern the 32 teams qualified for the 2025 competition, offering a ten-day window to adjust their squad, from June 1 to 10.

More flexibility for players at the end of their contract

The objective is to allow clubs to strengthen themselves just before the tournament, but without obligation for the federations to open this additional period. Another new feature concerns players at the end of their contract on June 30, who would have the possibility of finishing the competition with their former club, even if they have already signed elsewhere. A way of giving more contractual freedom, like stars like Mohamed Salah who could play in the World Cup with Liverpool, while already being engaged with another club from July.
