Discontent is growing in France over the attitude of BeIN Sports, and Daniel Riolo clearly congratulated John Textor’s OL for stepping up to confront the League with its responsibilities.
The OL version of John Textor leaves everyone waiting for the moment. Last season’s roller coaster ride made it difficult to have an overall vision of the project, and multi-ownership and complex and wasteful economic management have a way of worrying OL’s followers. However, in terms of speaking, activity and defending the interests of his club, the American has clearly convinced Daniel Riolo, who is not the type to be fooled.
OL are not lackeys of the LFP
But the fact of seeing Olympique Lyonnais attack the LFP and BeIN Sports for the forced sponsorship contract with the clubs in order to supplement the TV rights which are not currently paid, represents the big blow of blood for this Thursday. And Daniel Riolo clearly appreciated this position which shows that OL is no longer a club that gives in, while Ligue 1 teams have been silent or conciliatory on this subject since the start of the season. “ OL is a courageous club which has decided not to be a lackey club which does what it is told to do while keeping its mouth shut…”, underlined the RMC consultant, for whom it is time for Vincent Laburne and BeIN Sports to be held accountable for the non-payment of the first payments.
OL’s attack could in any case trigger real debates within Ligue 1, knowing that Le Havre has also already strongly criticized the LFP for the agreement with CVC which the Norman club vigorously contests, and which is not egalitarian in his eyes. In the wake of a complicated period with the negotiation of TV rights, the period of crisis is not over, and the re-election of Vincent Labrune supported by his friendly presidents who almost congratulated him for having plunged the amount collected during the call for tenders, did not calm the discontent in France.
