“In my opinion, Arber Xhekaj would not make the top-6 of a top team”

Arber Xhekaj is having a very eventful camp.

He fought a few times, was thrown out of a preseason game twice and distributes hits generously.

We know his physical usefulness, but during the last match, he showed great things offensively and defensively.

Seeing this version of the biggest of the Xhekaj brothers, we understand that he is very useful in a top-6 defense.

On the other hand, Richard Labbé thinks quite the opposite.

The latter was on BPM Sports this Sunday, during the show Le Tailgate Weekendwith Greg Lanctot.

Labbé mentioned that Arber Xhekaj would not make the defensive top-6 of a top team.

He added by saying that Lane Hutson, for all his offensive prowess, would not be part of a top-4 on an aspiring team.

As much for Hutson as for Xhekaj, I do not agree with what Richard Labbé said.

Even though Hutson is not a stud defensively, his offensive contribution more than compensates.

In any case, we wouldn’t ask a purely offensive defender to be good defensively, even if it would be a very good asset.

Not to mention the fact that defenders who move the puck very well and who are as agile on the skate as Hutson are not commonplace.

And it takes a defender like him in a team to restart the attack.

As for Xhekaj, he is not just a physical defender, although he excels at that level.

He has had defensive shortcomings before, but has shown good things since his time in last year.

In addition, we know that he has a very powerful shot and he can deceive the vigilance of opposing goalkeepers with it.

All this, while being quite mobile for a colossus of its size.

Defenders of 6 feet, 4 inches and 240 pounds, who terrorize their opponents and who can support the attack as well as defend their territory, it is very rare.

In short, defenders like Xhekaj or Hutson can break through any team, even if some are more than well endowed on the blue line.

I even believe that some contending teams would possibly make room in their lineup to add Xhekaj or Hutson, who are also still very young.
