But the former Toulouse resident acknowledges having also gone through a complicated period on an individual level. “I was looking for myself a bit,” he confided to L’Equipe on Sunday. “There were a lot of changes in my life, my dad was ill, but I was convinced that it wasn’t going to affect my football. I was defensive, even aggressive at certain times because I wanted everything control. I was so hopeful that the club would maintain itself, that we would do things well, that I let myself get caught up in a negative spiral. It showed in my season.

“There were times when I no longer wanted to train”
To explain this bad patch, Alban Lafont also highlights the instability on the Canaries bench where three coaches have succeeded one another. “It happened that I no longer wanted to train. And things went very badly during the sessions.” Especially since the collaboration with the former number 2, Rémy Descamps was far from perfect.
While the Neo-Lyonnais spoke of “a work colleague” about Lafont on Saturday in the columns of Ouest-France, the latter recognized that the training sessions could have been better if the two goalkeepers had gotten along better.
