Top 14 – -Bègles gets scared against but continues

Yannick Bru’s men ended up winning (30-27) against and consolidated their place at the top of the Top 14 ranking. However, everything was not easy for the UBB which was scared and even saw the Bayonnais equalize a few minutes from the end of the match. Matéo Garcia gave his team the victory again thanks to a new penalty.

Long bothered by a valiant team from Bayonne, the Union Bègles won the Aquitaine duel against the sky and white, 30-27. While it had the offensive bonus thirty minutes from the end, UBB scared itself, but won thanks to a kick from Mateo Garcia at the end. Bayonne consoles itself with a good defensive bonus.

In Chaban, Union Bordeaux Bègles generally dominated the first act. Yannick Bru’s men had their hands on the ball for long moments (53% possession), but they came up against a generous Basque defense, like the eleven tackles made by Esteban Capilla in 40 minutes and, All in all, rather well organized. Under the Bordeaux sun, it was Nicolas Depoortère who scored the first points of the match. After a good play at the foot of Mathieu Jalibert for himself, the Union lost the ball near the Basque in-goal, but a counter ruck from Gazzotti allowed the locals to regain possession and Depoortere, on the short side, crossed the goal line (5-0, 13th).

Aviron’s response was quick. On the next action, and after a well-negotiated touch at the halfway line, the sky and white sent the game to the left. Victor Hannoun overflowed and handed the inside ball to Maxime Machenaud, who finished the job (5-7, 16th). Bordeaux pushed, to get back into the score, but a touch that was not always precise did not allow the locals to realize their highlights. We had to wait until the half hour mark to see Mathieu Jalibert pass a penalty (8-7, 30th) and, six minutes later, Cyril Cazeaux, supporting a breakthrough from Maxime Lucu, made a first break at scoreboard (15-7, 36th). However, a penalty from Joris Segonds, on the siren, reduced the gap (15-10, 40th) and thus, UBB returned to the locker room with a slim lead.

Garcia saves Bordeaux

After the restart, Bordeaux quickly took the lead. First, it was the former Olympic player, Temo Matiu, who showed his power and speed to resist the return of Esteban Capilla in the corner (20-10, 42nd). Then, Romain Buros came to conclude, on the other side of the field, a long highlight for his team (27-10, 50th), offering, at this moment of the match, the offensive bonus to his team.

But Rowing finished the game better. The sky and white reignited the suspense thanks to a powerful try from Rodrigo Bruni (27-17, 58th). Two minutes later, the Bayonne opener, Joris Segonds, hit a superb drop from 40 meters to bring Rowing to seven points (27-20, 60th). Grégory Patat’s men began to really believe in the feat and Yohan Orabé, after a very long sequence, scored Bayonne’s third try, which was transformed into a corner by Joris Segonds (27-27, 74th). But there, like last week, Mateo Garcia was the hero at the end of the match, since he passed a long-range penalty, which gave Bordeaux the victory (30-27, 76th).
