“Verbal and psychological violence”: the ex-partner of a 1998 world champion files a complaint

She claims to have gone through several years of abuse with David Trezeguet. Never denounced out of shame and fear. Belén Cosimo, 35, is the ex-partner of the former scorer for the French Football team, 98 world champion and 2000 European champion with France.

A 10-year union, ended in 2022. In the meantime, a little boy was born. He is now 7 years old. The complainant testifies in an interview with the Spanish daily The World. According to her, since the separation, David Trezeguet has been suffocating her financially, notably taking away an Italian credit card, the basis for payment of their son’s monthly alimony.

Since last August, the ex-footballer, retired since 2014, has no longer paid the rent for the Madrid apartment where Belén Cosimo and his son live. She therefore decided to file a complaint for “non-payments” but also for “mistreatment”.

Indeed, the young woman testifies to a relationship which deteriorated significantly from 2017. “I was like his assistant, I accompanied him everywhere. But that changed when I became pregnant with my son, because clearly, when there is a child, priorities change “There is no denying that he is a public figure and he had a lot of fans. But his behavior away and at home was not the same, especially after a lost match, an unwon championship or a failed final. All of this has a big impact at home, and on top of that, there are professional projects that don’t come to fruition.”

Failures combined with nights out would have considerably damaged the relationship. “There was psychological and verbal violence, but I did not denounce it at the time, although I keep some of the messages he sent me. I could not continue like this for the well-being and the my son’s physical health and mine. It was him or me. […] “He told me that my Disney life was over and that these were the consequences of my separation. I didn’t think he was going to stop paying. I’m going to end up on the street, but I’m very worried about my son that I cannot involve in this situation.”
