“Expectations are unrealistic”: Steven Defour’s uncompromising analysis of the Anderlecht situation – All football

Steven Defour prefaced tomorrow’s clash between Anderlecht and Standard. He is quite clear on the situation of the Mauves.

When it comes to Clasicos, Steven Defour knows a lot about it, whether for those experienced as a Standardman or as an Anderlechtois. Het Nieuwsblad therefore made him its privileged interlocutor to preface tomorrow’s match.

For him, it is not illogical that Anderlecht are looking for themselves at the start of the season: “They are not as good as last season, when they could make the difference thanks to individual flashes. Now that Thorgan Hazard is injured, Anders Dreyer scores less and Mario Stroeykens is on the bench from time to time, things are going slower.”

Anderlecht at a turning point

The former Mechelen coach notes that water has flowed under the bridges at Lotto Park: “It’s not theAnderlecht prosperous years. It’s a little below. It is also not a shame if we want to rebuild. It is only then that we must dare to communicate to our supporters that we believe in our youth and that we want to bet on them.”

“That means you could one day miss the Playoffs or European football. Today the expectations are unrealistic, while for me they are not one of the best teams,” he continues.

Defour therefore pleads for objectives more in line with today’s reality: “First of all, we must reach the Playoffs. The first two places are too high in my opinion. Third place is the ceiling for this Anderlecht” .
