Med Max: Achille Nebout and Gildas Mahé snatch victory in Class40

Med Max (Port-Camargue – Saïdia in Morocco)

The sun was barely rising over Saïdia in Morocco when Achille Nebout and Gildas Mahé crossed the finish line of the first edition of the Med Max as winners at the helm of their Class40 Amarris after 4 days 19h22’07” : “The Mediterranean is complex,” admitted Gildas Mahé. The evening before, Sébastien Rogues and Jean-Baptise Gellée had won the Ocean Fifty race.

It took a lot of fighting but these two found each other. Already winners of the Transat Québec Saint-Malo (with Alan Roberts) and third in the Les Sables – Horta – Les Sables race, they add a nice line to their list of achievements. One last victory in a busy season. “I had not done offshore racing in the Mediterranean and I was served. The race had the intensity we expected,” said Achille Nebout as he dismounted, adding: “In four years, we will do the same again with more boats and more Mistrals.”

The Class40 ranking:
