Barely an hour separates Toulouse of Castres. Many Toulouse supporters will do this journey this Saturday, October 5, to witness the clash between neighbors. Some even less, depending on where they live. Halfway between the two cities for example, where the supporters are divided. Between Toulouse and Castreswho to support? In Lavaur, the question is far from being resolved.
“I’d say it’s 50/50” estimated Patrice Lopez, co-president of the Amicale Sportive Vauréen. “But the trend has nevertheless been much more Castres-based in recent years, with great attractiveness on the Castres side, with a beautiful stadium, a nice welcome and a very good atmosphere. Well, access is also easier than in Toulouse, and then Toulouse is complicated, it’s often sold out. I find that there are more and more people heading towards Castres” explains Patrice Lopez.
“At the market, people discuss Toulouse and Castres”
A certainty, whether we are “red and black” or “blue and white”, it’s about rugby. “On Saturday morning at the market, we know that rugby, the Stadium or Castres are discussed. The atmosphere is that there are pro-Toulouse and pro-Castrais. People tease each other a little, it’s fair game, and it’s good natured” describes the co-president of Lavaur.
The Amicale leans more towards Castres than Toulouse. “Thanks to the 100% Region program, these partnerships between Castres and local clubs. The CO helps us a lot, and we have a lot of double licenses with them” recalls Patrice Lopez. That, and then a historical dimension toosince “Pierre Fabre was from Lavaur, and quite a few workers work in the laboratory.” Some even went to encourage Castres rather than Toulouse, like the Baget family in Rabastensbut it’s for a good cause: after six years in Bayonne, their son Rémy, trained in Toulouse, now plays winger for the CO. One thing is certain: no need for the referee’s whistle, the match between supporters has already started.
