Clément (Rangers) “would like OL’s financial problems”

Finalist in the Europa League in 2022, Rangers are not favorites against OL. Philippe Clément believes that the team has more arguments.

From our special correspondent in Glasgow.

L’OL has changed a lot over the past two seasons, however it does not remain unknown to Philippe Clément. Passed by theAS Monaco for a little over a year, the current coach of Glasgow Rangers knows the Lyon team well. When it came time to face him, the Belgian did not fail to show all his respect, even his admiration for OL during his press conference. If Pierre Sage underlined the history which weighed over the Rangers and their stadium, his counterpart highlighted the different names which constituted the Lyon group to explain how theOL was the favorite of this meeting. “It’s a different world from ours, but we are going to fight with our qualities. Lyon has high quality players, like Lacazette, Matic, Tolisso… They also have stars like Cherki, great wingers like Fofana, Nuamah or Zaha.”

To listen to Clementthe list could have been even longer, and it is in the shoes of Tom Thumb that the Rangers place themselves for this 2nd day of the Europa League. “They have four, five or six players capable of making a difference, and can come off the bench as much. If we beat Lyon? We would beat a big club. Even a draw would be a good result, but we obviously want the three points. “

This position of favorites, Pierre Sage and Corentin Tolisso brushed it aside, believing that it would be “50-50” at Ibrox Stadium. Finalists in the Europa League in 2022 and playing in front of their audience, the Rangers could puff out their chests when receiving training from OL which is still looking for itself. But there again, Philippe Clément believes that the two clubs do not box in the same category. “It’s at a similar level to Benfica, who we met last season. The difference is in the budgets, the money spent to make the team. They were able to buy players for 20, 25, 30 million euros. I would like to have the same financial problems. It’s a different world from ours, but we will fight with our qualities.

James’ teammates Tavernier will be able to count once again on popular fervor since the stadium is sold out for the return of the Europa League this season. We could see in Décines that this could help move mountains.
