Kent Hughes raised the idea of signing Fleury this summer

Is there anyone who misses the menage a trois in front of the net for the Canadian?

I think in 99.9% of cases the answer is no.

It wasn’t ideal for Montembeault’s progress and that of Primeau, and the trade that sent Jake Allen to New Jersey made things easier afterward. Because we agree: two goalkeepers are much less difficult to manage than three goalkeepers.

Speaking of Allen, in the latest episode of Crave’s “Rebuild” series, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are heard discussing when it would be best to trade the goaltender.

You will understand that the sequence was filmed before the transaction with the Devils. The GM discussed options in front of the net with his colleagues… After talking about releasing the veteran Allen.

That said, it gets some attention because Kent Hughes then talks about the possibility of signing Marc-Andre Fleury on the free agent market during the summer.

Obviously, we do not have all the information from the discussion between Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.

It’s private, and the Canadian would never have revealed the big details of a discussion like that for obvious reasons.

He wouldn’t have any interest in doing that. but knowing that Hughes thought about the idea of offering a contract to Marc-André Fleury (who never became a free agent in the end) is worth sharing.

After all, at that time, the Canadian also counted on the services of Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau.

We have to wonder, therefore, if the CH organization wanted to squeeze one of the two to make room for Fleury, who plans to play one last season in the NHL. There must have been other names that were raised because the goal of all GMs is to improve their respective club if they are capable of doing so.

That said, I personally find that it would have been illogical.

The Canadian cares too much about Primeau to abandon his development and we know that Monty progressing at an interesting pace.

If CH had what it took to participate in the series and make a run in the playoffs, ok… But the club is not there yet.
