Patrik Laine sidelined for two to three months

The Canadian will be without his new attacker Patrik Laine for the start of the season, since the player suffers from a sprained left knee. He will be kept away from action for a period of two to three months, but his rehabilitation will not require an operation.

Laine was injured Saturday evening following a collision with Cédric Paré of the Toronto Maple Leafs during a preseason game.

It’s not easy, with everything he’s been through last year. He gets here, he starts to feel comfortable, then he gets hurt againdeclared to Radio-Canada Sports the general manager of the team, Kent Hughes.

Laine was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets this summer, along with a 2nd round draft pick, for defenseman Jordan Harris. The Finn was limited to 18 games last season with Columbus due in part to a collarbone injury. He was also absent to take part in the National Hockey League’s assistance program.

Hughes was relieved, and he considers that the worst was finally avoided, since the absence could have been much longer. When you think you might miss another entire season, there were certainly a lot of doubts in his head. So, we are happy for him.

The 6’5″ (1.96m) left winger was the 1st round, 2nd overall pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2016. He has scored 388 points in 480 games since the start of his career, including including 204 goals.

Earlier today, the Canadian announced that his prospect David Reinbacher was going to have surgery, and that he was going to miss five to six months of activity. Reinbacher was Montreal’s 1st choice (5th overall) in 2022.

The Habs will begin their season on Wednesday, October 9, at the Bell Center, against the Leafs. Between now and then, he will play two other preparatory games against the Senators.
