NFL: injured in both legs, Christian McCaffrey could miss the entire season

Christian McCaffrey on the short-term injured list with hopes of seeing him return to action after a four-game absence.

Annoyed by Achilles and calf injuries, the team was cautious with the 28-year-old veteran in order to see him in good shape for the second half of the season and, above all, the playoffs this winter.

Except things don’t turn out exactly the way the team and McCaffrey hoped.

According to Adam Schefter, Achilles tendinitis is now widespread in both of McCaffrey’s legs and the team is weighing its options regarding his return.

The team’s general manager, John Lynch, spoke about the situation on KNBR radio last Friday, mentioning that the case was now being treated as bilateral tendinitis and it would not be impossible for McCaffrey to miss the entire season.

The running back went to Germany to see specialists and has been back home ever since. The team, according to Lynch, is giving McCaffrey time to see how the situation evolves.

After an incredible season in 2023 where he was named offensive player of the year, McCaffrey has still not played since the start of the calendar in order to help the finalists of the last Super Bowl.

During his absence, Jordan Mason took the bulk of the load in the backfield with 447 yards and three touchdowns in four games.

The 49ers will play their next game against the Arizona Cards on Sunday after a victory against the Patriots.
