Medalists from the South in the spotlight! – South Region

Monday September 30, Renaud Muselier, President of the South Region, paid tribute to the athletes and medalists of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the Regional Hall, alongside regional elected officials.

Many athletes were present during this ceremony including Rayan REBBADJ, Olympic gold medalist in sevens, Lauriane NOLOT, silver medalist in kitefoil, Sylvain ANDRÉ, silver medalist in BMX, Fabien LAMIRAULT, bronze medalist in para table tennis and Christophe LAPORTE, bronze medalist in cycling.

On this occasion, the President of the Region presented each Champion of the South (athlete supported by the Region) and flame bearer with a drop trophy, then a medal to all participants of the JOP 2024 and a Monnaie de medal engraved in gold for Olympic medalists.

We vibrated and shouted during these 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games! This is the moment to salute not only our athletes, but also the commitment of volunteers, organizers, and the entire sports movement. We experienced unique emotions, which will remain forever engraved in our memories. On behalf of the Southern Region, a big thank you! Long live sport!

In total, 83 athletes from the South region participated in the 2024 Olympic Games and 19 returned with a medal.

60 athletes and 15 medalists at the Olympic Games:
3 gold medals: Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt in mountain biking, Cassandre Beaugrand (licensed in Monaco) in triathlon and Rayan Rebbadj in rugby 7 and licensed here at the Rugby Club Toulonnais!
6 silver medals: Sylvain André in BMX, Lauriane Nolot in formula kite, Lucie Granier (born in ) in handball, Strazel Matthew in basketball (licensed in Monaco), Soungoutou Magassa and Maghnes Akliouche in football (licensed in Monaco)
6 bronze medals: Florent Manaudou (x2) and Clément Secchi in 4x100m swimming, Romain Mathieu in BMX, Christophe Laporte in cycling and brothers Sébastien and Jean-Philippe Patrice in team saber fencing.

23 athletes and 4 medalists at the Paralympic Games:
4 bronze medals: Fabien Lamirault in para table tennis (x2), Nathalie Benoit in para rowing, Rémy Taranto and Candyce Chafa in team para rowing.
