The 34-year-old veteran had received an invitation to show off his skills at the organization’s training camp a dozen days earlier. However, his efforts did not prove conclusive. Hoffman collected one goal and three assists in four preparatory games, while maintaining a differential of -2.

Last season, he collected 23 points, including 10 goals, in 66 games in a San Jose Sharks uniform. They acquired him through the transaction involving the Habs and the Pittsburgh Penguins, who got their hands on Erik Karlsson on August 6, 2023.

Blais does not convince the Canucks

Like Hoffman, forward Samuel Blais also did not convince his team, the Vancouver Canucks, to grant him a standard contract for the 2024-2025 season. He was at the team’s camp on a professional tryout agreement, but was released by general manager Patrik Allvin Monday afternoon.

The former St. Louis Blues had three chances to showcase himself during the preparatory schedule, but his performances were mixed. He has not scored a single point in three outings, while posting a differential of -3.

In 53 games with the Blues last year, the Montmagny native had one goal and six assists for seven points.

Later Monday, the Ottawa Senators also announced that they had released 38-year-old veteran Nikolay Kulemin from his professional tryout.
