Ancelotti’s huge warning to his players for the derby

Zapping Our Mondial EXCLUDED: Moussa Diaby’s “Little Brother” interview!

Real Madrid find themselves in a tricky situation with referees this season, especially after accumulating three new yellow cards during their meeting against Alavés. What particularly concerns the club is the high proportion of cards received for protests. Since the establishment last summer of a strict rule prohibiting any challenge to refereeing decisions, only captains are authorized to interact with the referee. Any demonstration of disagreement, including gestures, is now punished with a yellow card. A rule to which Madrid players seem to have difficulty adapting. Indeed, of the 15 yellow cards received this season, 9 were inflicted for protest, including 6 in the last eight matches. This situation is all the more frustrating for the Merengues as their main rivals, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, have only received one card for protest between them.

A rule established by the coach

Faced with this accumulation of sanctions, Carlo Ancelotti reacted firmly. Before the derby against Atlético Madrid, the coach gave clear instructions to his players: any form of protest or gestures towards the referee is strictly prohibited. Ancelotti wants to avoid reliving the situation observed in the match against Alavés, where the impulsive reactions of his players cost dearly in terms of disciplinary sanctions. By imposing this strict discipline, the coach hopes that Real Madrid will manage to avoid unnecessary penalties which could harm their performances during the major events of the season.
