Cihan Canak very bitter about his departure from Standard: “Look at William Balikwisha and Arnaud Bodart” – All football

Cihan Canak is now playing in Türkiye, for Trabzonspor. He talks about his departure from Standard.

Unlike his last months at Standard, Cihan Canak can count on a starting place at Trabzonspor. The Verviétois even opened his account at the very start of the season with a sublime curling strike during a preliminary round of the Europa League.

He does not regret his departure from Sclessin: “I did not have the right to play there in my best position and I had the impression that the club preferred to highlight players from outside rather than boys from from his academy” he says, interviewed by La Derniere Heure.

A departure through the back door

The Belgian-Turk draws a parallel between his situation and that of other children of the club like Arnaud Bodart or William Balikwisha, who also experienced a turbulent summer: “If you look at how their situation was managed…”.

Something had broken for him: “I didn’t fit into the plans of the coach or the club. I wasn’t used in a position where I could perform and progress. When you don’t have trust yourself, it’s complicated.”

The two million disbursed by Trabzonspor finally settles everyone. The future will tell us if Standard made a mistake in pushing several products from its academy towards the exit.
