Cindy Van der Pulst is staying with her companion in the small town of Candelaria, in the north of Tenerife, close to the region affected by the forest fires. However, TUI assures that there would be practically no tourists having used its services in this area because the latter mainly collaborates with hotels located in the southern part of the island.

But according to Cindy, that’s not the case. “We have no news from TUI so far, while I can see the wildfire from the balcony where I am sitting. And please don’t say there are no tourists here, I can assure you that there are. We were dropped off in the north, along with other customers, by a bus belonging to TUI.”

Piet Demeyere, spokesman for TUI, said there was no official communication as at no time were the customers’ lives endangered. “Tourists were able to see the flames because the fire started on a mountain, but the hotel was thirty kilometers from the wildfire.” The spokesperson also assured that those concerned could always contact the TUI staff present in the hotel. “We are an international organization. If they want additional information, they can always contact the international staff. The latter will repeat to them that there is no danger.”
