Leclerc gives Ferrari the Italian GP ahead of Piastri and Norris

What a coup by Leclerc and the Scuderia! Charles Leclerc wins at Monza with a one-stop strategy. His second victory of the season after Monaco and the seventh in his career! The tifosi in the stands are going crazy. The McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris complete the podium.

The fans are crazy in the stands, a Ferrari is going to win at Monza.

Leclerc goes straight ahead. He has a six-second lead with two laps to go.

Huge move by Leclerc. The Ferrari driver has lost almost nothing and still has a 7-second lead with three laps to go.

7 seconds ahead for the Monegasque with less than four laps left. Piastri is not really coming back.

Leclerc is eight seconds ahead of Piastri with five laps to go. The Australian is pushing hard on his less worn tyres while Leclerc’s hard ones have 34 laps to go.

Norris is third, he has just overtaken Sainz on the start/finish straight.

The Australian passed Sainz on lap 46 and took second place. He chased Leclerc, 11 seconds ahead.

Huge gamble for the Scuderia. Leclerc leads the race with a ten-second lead over Sainz and 13 over Piastri. The Ferraris try the one-stop trick.

The Dutchman puts on the mediums to go to the end of the race at the end of lap 41. Verstappen will be able to attack very hard.

At the start of lap 41, Norris overtook Verstappen and took 4th place. The Dutchman still had to stop.

Despite his worn tires, Verstappen defends hard on Norris and the Briton loses time.

The leader makes his second stop and puts on hard tyres. He comes out 3rd. Leclerc takes the lead ahead of Sainz.

Second stop for the Briton who takes the track 6th on hard.

The Monegasque is currently second, five seconds behind Piastri. He is pushing now that he is rid of Norris.

Second stop for Norris at the end of lap 32. He puts on hard pit stops to go to the end of the race and comes out 6th, behind Verstappen.

Norris is struggling with his right front tyre and has just let Piastri escape, five seconds ahead, and sees Leclerc come back to within a second.

Russell attacks Perez for 7th place but the Mexican defends hard and holds his position.

Ocon has still not pitted and is in 10th place while Gasly is in 16th.

1’23”333 for Oscar Piastri. The Australian has just set the fastest lap in the race and has a 2.2 second lead over Norris.

Perez stops in turn and puts on hard tires. Piastri takes back the lead.

Verstappen stops at the end of the 22nd lap to put on hard tires. He will therefore make another stop but the stop is catastrophic and lasts more than six seconds… The Dutchman loses big and comes out 8th.

At the end of the first sector, Magnussen attacks Gasly but misses his braking and hits the Frenchman. Both drivers are still on the track.

Having started on hard tyres, the Austrian cars are leading the race as they have not pitted. Verstappen is now even picking up the pace after 21 laps.

Sainz also stops to put on hard tyres and comes out 6th. Verstappen takes the lead ahead of Perez. As a reminder, the Red Bulls started on hard tyres.

The Monegasque is in the exhaust of Lando Norris and he has the DRS. Leclerc is not happy with Ferrari’s strategy and he is on the attack.

Piastri, leader, follows everyone and stops at the end of lap 16 to put on hard tires. He comes out 4th. Sainz leads the race ahead of Verstappen and Perez.

Big blow for Norris who undercuts Leclerc. The Monegasque stops at the end of the 15th lap, as does Hamilton. Both put on hard tires and Leclerc comes out 7th behind Norris.

Norris makes a wild entry into the pits at the end of lap 14. The Briton arrives at full speed and even hits a sign. He changes his tires and puts on hard tires. He comes out 8th and immediately overtakes Ocon.

At the end of lap 11, Russell changed his destroyed front wing and his tires. He started again on hard tires and in 16th position just ahead of Gasly who had just stopped.

Leclerc has lost tenths and is almost two seconds behind Piastri. He no longer has DRS.

Sergio Perez is 7th after overtaking Russell at Turn 1 of Lap 11.

Ocon passes Gasly and takes 13th place. The Alpines try to catch up with the group in front.

At the end of the 7th lap, Yuki Tsunoda had to return to the pits to retire after being hit by Hulkenberg. A lot of bad luck for the Japanese.

With his hard tyres, the Dutchman is struggling to keep up with the pace of the leaders. He is more than a second behind Lewis Hamilton and no longer has DRS.

The German lost big after contact with Tsunoda at the first corner. The Haas driver then had to return to the pits to change his front wing and tires. He is last.

The Mercedes lost a lot at the start and Russell damaged his car and its floor. He is 7th.

The Ferrari driver (2nd) is chasing Oscar Piastri and is less than a second behind the Australian. He has DRS.

Lively start at Monza. Norris kept the lead at the first corner but Piastri overtook him at the end of sector 1. Norris almost lost control of his car and found himself 3rd as Leclerc was sandwiched.

Behind, Russell went straight on at the first corner and found himself 7th. Verstappen is 6th behind Hamilton.

The lights have just gone out at Monza and the drivers are heading towards the first corner in front of 335,000 people. Good luck to all!

The drivers take off for the formation lap on the Monza track. The start of the race is imminent.

No driver tries the softs. The first six are on mediums while the two Red Bulls are on hards.

The weather is uncertain above Monza and according to the weather data there is a 40% chance of rain during the race.

If with 70 points ahead of Norris, Verstappen has a margin which allows him to see the drivers’ standings coming, the gap is much less significant among the constructors.

Over the last five races, McLaren has collected 167 points while Red Bull has only scored 104 points and the gap is now only 30 points between the Austrians and the British in the standings. Things are heating up for RB who have not found solutions to improve their single-seater for two months now.

The Briton must overcome the Indian sign. Indeed, during his first four pole positions, Lando Norris never kept the lead at the first corner. Bis repetita this Sunday or will the McLaren driver finally find the solution?

Exit Logan Sargeant and Welcome Franco Colapinto at Williams. The 21-year-old Argentinian replaced the American after another disastrous Dutch weekend. Colapinto will finish the season alongside Alex Albon and will be replaced next season by Carlos Sainz. In the meantime, for his first weekend in F1, the Argentinian could only do 18th in qualifying while Alex Albon will start 9th.

The two French single-seaters were eliminated on Saturday in Q2. On the Italian track, the Alpines showed their limits, particularly in terms of top speed and balance. Pierre Gasly will start 14th while Esteban Ocon will start from 15th position. The points seem difficult to reach on Sunday, even if Gasly had made a good comeback at Zandvoort (9th).

Saturday, qualifying once again turned to the advantage of McLaren. Lando Norris took his 5th career pole just ahead of Oscar Piastri and George Russell. The Ferraris of Leclerc and Sainz followed as well as Hamilton’s Mercedes. All these great people are only 2 tenths apart, a distance of 8 meters…

But Red Bull in all this? The Austrians are in the fourth row. Normally, Max Verstappen could not do better than 7th just ahead of Sergio Perez but more than six tenths behind Norris. A gulf that seriously worries internally.

With nine rounds to go in the season, Max Verstappen is no longer dominant. He hasn’t won in five races and in the Netherlands last weekend, the Dutchman, 2nd, conceded 22 seconds to Lando Norris. A chasm. He still has a 70-point lead over the Briton but given the performances of both at the moment, things could quickly get heated.

Like every year, at the beginning of September, Formula 1 sets up camp in Italy at Monza, a few kilometres north of Milan.
