Bib No 1, Timon Haugan crashed in the second round of the Kitzbühel slalom after setting the best time on the first course. The 28-year-old Norwegian quickly made a mistake, leaving victory to Frenchman Clément Noël, fourth in the morning.
Noël won with a 9 hundredths lead over the Italian Alex Vinatzer (who gained 9 places in the second round) and 19 hundredths ahead of the Brazilian of Norwegian origin Lucas Pinheiro Braathen. He took advantage of this success to take first place in the general ranking of the specialty, ahead of the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen (eliminated in the morning) and Loïc Meillard.
The latter made a big mistake in the first round (24th time with a delay of 1”95). He therefore approached the second with the firm intention of achieving a comeback similar to that of a week ago in Wengen. But the Valaisan of Neuchâtel origin quickly got on board, thus experiencing his second elimination of the season.
-Nef and Yule step back
Geneva’s Tanguy Nef, fifth in the morning, lost two places in the afternoon, finishing in seventh place (+0”44). Seventh in the first round with a delay of 65 hundredths on Haugan, the Valaisan Daniel Yule got off to a good start in the second round. But he made too many inaccuracies at the bottom of the track. He finally finished eleventh, 0”58 behind Christmas.
The other Swiss should be looked further afield. The Vaudois Marc Rochat took twentieth place (+1”97) and the Haut-Valaisan Ramon Zenhäusern took 23rd (+2”67). The Freiburger Luca Aerni and the Bernois Noel von Grünigen failed to qualify for the second round.
