The Garnets stall against Yverdon and let two precious points slip away

The SFC leaves Yverdon bitterly with a 0-0 draw, dropping two points against an affordable opponent. Lacking creativity and offensive edge, the Grenat were unable to break the Vaudois defensive block. This disappointing result highlights their difficulties against folded teams.

What to remember

Servette leaves Yverdon with a point after a match lacking in clear chances. Faced with a well-organized Yverdon team, the Grenat were unable to find the fault and scored a second consecutive draw in the championship.

The offensive sector, lacking inspiration, remains a priority for Thomas Häberli and his staff, who will have to quickly find solutions.

The tenure of Théo Magnin is one of the rare reasons for satisfaction in this match. Aligned from the start, the young defender was able to respond despite the pressure, showing himself diligent and serene in his interventions.

He demonstrated that he could be a reliable alternative in the defensive rotation. His commitment and solidity should be highlighted in a team which, overall, lacked desire and bite.

Severin’s injury, from whom we hope for a quick return, is a hard blow for a team already weakened defensively. If Kevin Adams took over the interim seriously, a prolonged absence of Severin could weigh heavily in the coming weeks.

This glaring lack of creativity and combativeness could weigh heavily in the rest of the championship. If this negative dynamic persists, the Garnets risk seeing their ambitions at the top of the table seriously compromised.

It becomes imperative for the staff to re-mobilize the group and regain a positive dynamic or risk being left behind by direct competitors.

The thread of the match

From the start, Yverdon imposed his pace and put SFC under pressure with remarkable intensity. In the 9th minute, Marley Aké put the Servetti defense in difficulty by causing a slight collision in the area.

In the 21st minute, he tried his luck with a shot which went wide of the Mall cages, illustrating despite everything the desire of the Vaudois to take the upper hand. Servette, lacking bite, struggles to get into his match, displaying a worrying passivity.

The hard blow came in the 15th minute: an unfortunate clash between Severin and Tsunemoto forced the former to leave the pitch. Kevin Adams comes into play and stabilizes the garnet rearguard with confidence.

Despite this turbulence, Servette tried to react through Derek Kutesa, whose incursion created a first scare in the opposing defense.

But Yverdon’s well-established defensive organization forces Stevanović to go very low to build the game.

Before the break, the last shot of the first period landed easily in Mall’s gloves, sealing a first act without brilliance or any real clear chance.

Back from the locker room, Yverdon continues his momentum and increases his offensive pressure. A moment of hesitation in the 57th minute could have cost the Garnet dearly: Kasim Adams lacked attention, but Mall saved the day with a decisive intervention.

The Vaudois further strengthened their defense, preventing Servette from developing his game. Geneva’s only breakthrough came in the 60th minute, with a shot off target from Mazikou.

Frustration mounted on the garnet side, especially after an obvious foul on Kutesa in the 62nd minute, totally ignored by the referee.

Häberli reacted by making several changes in the 65th minute, with the entries of Guillemenot and Ouattara, followed by Cespedes on the Yverdon side a few minutes later.

In the last quarter of an hour, the Servettians pushed and multiplied their attacks, forcing Bernardini to stand out with several decisive saves. At this point, Yverdon is playing for time and looking to preserve the draw.

Their goalkeeper takes his time on each restart, and the interruptions of play multiply, testing the patience of the Garnet players.

The final minutes are breathtaking. Mazikou forces the Vaudois goalkeeper into a reflex parade. The match ended goalless in the 97th minute, with a yellow card for Guillemenot, ending a frustrating evening for Servette FC.

The turning point of the match

The turning point in the match could have occurred in the 85th minute, when the Servettians, after numerous unsuccessful attempts, finally managed to break through the Yverdon defensive block.

A quick sequence initiated by Stevanović allowed Guillemenot to find himself in an ideal position in the area, but his shot was deflected at the last minute by Bernardini, imperious on his line.

In the final minutes, the Servettians tried everything, increasing their attacks and pushing the Vaudois to their limits.

A final opportunity presented itself in added time, with a powerful shot from Mazikou, but once again, the opposing goalkeeper proved impenetrable.

In the end, Yverdon’s defensive maneuvers and time management paid off, frustrating Servette who lacked realism and were unable to realize their late domination.

Player of the match

Théo Magnin, started for this match, stood out for his versatility and his unfailing commitment throughout the match.

Solid in defense, he was able to be intractable in duels and effective in his restarts, allowing Servette to build offensive actions from the back.

Always available, he did not hesitate to come up to offer solutions, creating gaps and supporting his teammates in the offensive phases.

His impact in the game was felt by his ability to balance the team, both in recovery and in forward projection. A complete performance which confirms its importance in the Garnet squad.

The declaration

At our microphone, Garnet goalkeeper Joël Mall describes a match whose difficulty the team feared:

The next SFC meeting is next Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Stade de la Praille against Grasshopper. Come and support Servette FC in conquering the podium. Go Garnets!
