Gantoise and Louvain failed to score this evening. It’s not for lack of trying, though.
With the victory of Standard at the start of the afternoon, La Gantoise had to win in turn to keep its place in the top 6. On the menu, there was a trip to Louvain this evening against Universities who were also in quest for points in the race to maintain.
Although he had already replaced Wouter Vrancken when he was ill, this was Danijel Milicevic’s first match as T1. The former attacking midfielder notably established Sven Kums in the midfield and welcomed Dante Vanzeirfreshly returned from MLS, at his side on the bench.
The breakdown
The first half was balanced with opportunities on both sides. OHL, however, had the best: Maziz and Mitrovic found Roef on their way and when he was defeated, the last defense was saved by Watanabe on the goal line. In the other direction, Andrew Hjulsager found the post before the break.
-Still as much indecision in the second act, with a certain tension between the two teams as a bonus. But that’s not enough to tip the scales: despite 44 (!) shots on goal, no one managed to find the net.
With this 0-0, Ghent is now one point less than Standard. Les Rouches finished the weekend in the top 6, a first since the second day and 4 out of 6 against Genk and Club Bruges. For its part, Louvain is three points ahead of the red zone.
