Did you know? The largest ice hockey team in our country, “Les Harfangs”, is in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. Let’s get to know them while they are preparing to face formidable Canadian teams during the most important tournament of the season in Saint John’s in Newfoundland.
Thanks to the increase in the number of licensees and the entry of the French team into the world top 10, female ice hockey continues to develop in France. In Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, a small end of France at the gates of Canada, as for their neighbors in North America, ice hockey is the most popular sport during the winter season. The archipelago has many teams. But only one is feminine: Harfangs. This team intends to make a place for itself in this so -called “male” sport Because very physical and considered quite violent.
Look here Hockey players from the end of the worldthe documentary devoted to this singular team.
Some see hockey is not a sport made for girls. Laurie, who is now part of the Harfangs team can testify. Young, she does figure skating and synchronized. After her studies, she settles down as a liberal nurse and meets one of the girls who is part of the Harfangs team, who offers to join them.
It is true that when you look at male hockey, it already plays stronger, faster and then it is true that contact, anyway, it is a little more rough than other sports.
There was no female hockey at all on the archipelago. What really motivated me to enter the Harfangs was to be able to offer the youth of the archipelago, the opportunity to play hockey and play in a female team, what I did Not was lucky to be younger.

Created in 2016, the Harfangs team remains to date the first and the only female team of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. At the start, a group of girlfriends created Harfangs. Finding a niche to train at the skating rink already widely used was not easy for the small association which had just risen. Nor to make a place for this female team, the collective must have proven itself. Over the years, many girls have grown up the rank of Harfangs. Today, it is the biggest amateur club with the greatest number of members in France.
The Harfangs are also behind the creation of a 100 % female tournament in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon during which the team invites and meets a Canadian team, the tomcats. A “test gallop” before going to Saint-John’s to Newfoundland to play the most important tournament of the season against the formidable Canadian. The Harfangs hope for the first time to beat them. For this, they have prepared for months to succeed in this feat.
To carry out this ambitious objective, they will chain training with a new coach, Patrick Foliot (CTL Ligue Hockey), a former hockey champion (who was the first Saint-Pierre to participate in Olympic Games) but also Physically prepare for fitness lessons. Nothing is left to chance and motivation is great for all members of the team.
Will the Harfangs go to the final? To find out, look Hockey players from the end of the world.
