In its World Cup, Norway snatched a victory in the final moments of the match against Spain to maintain a chance of qualifying for the last four of the World Cup.

Norway retains hope of reaching the quarter-finals of the World Handball Championship, which it co-organizes, after overthrowing Spain in the last ten minutes (25-24) on Wednesday in Oslo. The Norwegians, obliged to win all their matches in the main round after having reached it without a single point, were trailing 22-18 with 12 minutes remaining before inflicting a 6-0 on the Spaniards.

The latter had the equalizing ball at the siren, but Alex Dujshebaev’s free throw was blocked by the wall. Norway, which however lost its playing master Sander Sangosen to injury, is in 5th position (2 pts) in the extremely indecisive Group III, three lengths behind the Portuguese leader.

Portugal still undefeated

The Portuguese held Sweden (4 pts) in check (37-37), who had the winning ball but procrastinated, Jim Gottfridsson finding the net but after the siren. Brazil (4 pts) is still in the race after dominating Chile (28-24). He will face Sweden on the next day when Portugal will challenge Spain.

Iceland (6 pts) took an option for qualification in Group IV in Zagreb by dominating (27-24) Egypt (4 pts), joined in the ranking by Slovenia, who crushed Argentina ( 34-23), and Croatia, royal against Cape Verde (44-24). The next day will pit Egypt against Slovenia, and Croatia against Iceland.
