“There are days that you know you will remember for the rest of your life,” said Lewis Hamilton upon taking up his new position. Said position being a steering wheel at the most legendary of Formula 1 teams, Scuderia Ferrari, after more than a decade at Mercedes.
The seven-time world champion had already appeared in front of Enzo's legendary office next to a Ferrari F40, apparently his favorite Ferrari. Navy blue double-breasted suit and overcoat, patent leather shoes, he had already taken care of his entrance.
Since then, Lewis Hamilton has donned the iconic red suit (with the blue of new title sponsor HP prominently) and strapped into an F1 car to explore Fiorano, Ferrari's private test track. He made his first spin at the wheel of the 2023 SF-23, a car that Leclerc and Sainz had taken to third place in the constructors' championship that year.
Note that apart from a few parade laps at the controls of historic single-seaters, this is the very first time that Hamilton has had something other than a Mercedes engine under his right foot since his F1 debut in 2007.
-“We are entering a new chapter in the history of this legendary team, and I can’t wait to see what story we write together,” Hamilton said after his first day on the job.
