NHL: “Too bad for [Connor McDavid]but it’s good for us,” says Alexander Ovechkin

There is a saying that one person’s misfortune is another’s happiness.

And this week, the best player in the world is affected. Sent off during the weekend after a double-check in the face of Conor Garland, star player Connor McDavid was suspended three games.

And for the Washington Capitals, who are visiting Edmonton to face the Oilers on Tuesday night, that’s good news in itself and Alexander Ovechkin didn’t even hide it.

“It’s a shame for him, but it’s good for us that he’s not playing tonight. We’ll take it,” Ovechkin said with a smile on Wednesday before the game.

The meeting on Wednesday evening will be one at the top. The Capitals sit first in the overall NHL standings with a 31-10-5 record, while the Oilers are sixth with a 29-14-3 record.

Without McDavid, the Capitals have a great chance to take advantage of a weakened team.

A veteran of 20 seasons in the NHL, Ovechkin was questioned about the penalties awarded to star players and the treatment reserved for them by officials.

“This is my 20th season and in my first campaign, it was totally different hockey. 10 years ago, it was different hockey. For the young players coming into the league, they know it’s a man’s league. You have to be able to take contact. I think you just have to be ready to fight on the ice and be physical. »
