Ivan Leko, savior of Standard…and future thorn in the side of the club? “For me, it’s a problem” – All football

Standard has the wind in its sails and is even chasing Playoffs 1. But the questions raised by the resumption have not yet been resolved.

Thanks to its second away victory of the season, Standard is now only one point behind La Gantoise. And given the worrying state of form of the Buffalos, seeing the Rouches enter the top 6 is no longer so illusory.

Much of the credit goes to Ivan Leko, who does well with what he has at hand: “It’s no coincidence that he accumulates so many points. A clear mentality has developed in the team” analyzes Alex Teklak on Vivacité.

“No Standard had a bit of luck in the last game, but the ability to get the most out of the squad and get results even with few goals scored is impressive. Standard is the big surprise of the season, given what they show on the pitch” underlines the consultant.

What structure during the takeover?

Teklak, however, sees a downside in anticipating the club’s future recovery: “Ivan Leko not only manages the team, but also the transfers. The last two transfer periods are largely based on his network. For me, that’s a problem.”

How will the Croatian coach react when the next management imposes its views on recruitment and places its trusted men? “His role must be clearly delineated by the future owner of the club. A coach cannot have this dual role in Belgium, because we do not have the structures that allow it, like in England.”
