Traded by the New York Rangers to the Seattle Kraken on December 18, the 23-year-old Finn seems to be enjoying his new team.

In 13 games since joining the Washington State team, Kakko has already collected four goals and 10 points. He had four goals in 31 games with the Rangers before the trade.

If he maintains his current pace, he should be able to surpass his personal best in points in a season which is 40.

A first goal with the Kraken for Kakko –

What’s more, with 24 points collected so far this year, he is only one point behind his former teammate Alexis Lafrenière. Last October, the Rangers decided to extend the Quebecer’s agreement long-term, at a rate of $7.45 million per campaign.

Kakko was selected second overall in the 2019 draft, just behind Jack Hughes. However, he has not yet been able to justify this high selection rank by his performances on the ice, especially on the offensive level.

After the trade, he poured his heart out in the media about his situation in New York.

“The team [les Rangers] wasn’t playing well enough and they needed to do something. I knew it could be me. I was honest. The other guys were playing advantage and penalty kill. I did not evolve in these units.

The Rangers also parted ways with their captain Jacob Trouba in December and could once again trade a regular player from their roster between now and the trade deadline on March 7.
