Victim of a torn cruciate ligament on April 14, Thorgan Hazard (31) is gradually working on his return: in four matches, he has just accumulated 120 minutes of playing time. “It’s getting better and better, every signals are positive”, he said in Het Nieuwsblad after the semi-final victory against Antwerp in the Croky Cup.
“The only delicate point in coming back after such a long injury is that it is winter now. Yari (Verschaeren, editor’s note) had warned me that the cold and heavier terrain can intensify the sensations,” explained Hazard. “But overall it’s okay. Some days I feel it more than others.”
In recent weeks, Anderlecht has not had the luxury of giving Hazard playing time in matches that have already ended, after 45 or even 60 minutes. And he didn’t play with the Futures either. However, he always needed time to get back to his best level.
-Adverse circumstances
But circumstances do not work in his favor, nor in that of David Hubert. The Lotto Park pitch is not yet in optimal condition, the Beerschot sandpit was dangerous and the Kortrijk pitch on Sunday will probably be very heavy.
“I will be ready to start a match soon, but it is the coach who decides when he will need me. I am impatient, but I also know that in the coming weeks we will play every three days, and my luck will come.”
