Things are not going well for the Vancouver Canucks and head coach Rick Tocchet did not mince his words when describing the failures of center JT Miller.

The 31-year-old veteran and teammate Elias Pettersson have been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons lately due to a rumored conflict between the two men.

There is plenty of hearsay about a deal, and Miller is the new Turk head of the supporters.

“Yes, he’s in trouble. He’s a little overwhelmed, Tocchet said after Thursday’s 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. It seems like every time he’s on the ice, something bad happens.”

Miller has not obtained a point since his superb evening of two goals and two assists against the Montreal Canadiens on January 6. Defensively, things aren’t going any better for the guy who took a month’s break in November.

“I think he has bad luck, but he also needs to look in the mirror and focus on some things. I think he’s trying, but his level of attention needs to be higher,” continued the Canucks head coach.

The statistics tend to prove what Tocchet is saying. Against the Kings, Miller spent 14:34 on the ice, committing two turnovers and finishing with a differential of -2. He had no shots on goal and had no points.

After an honest start to the season, Vancouver has slipped in the Western Conference standings and finds itself outside the playoff picture.

Miller has 29 points in 34 games this season after a 103-point campaign in 2023-24. He commands a salary of $8 million until 2029-2030.
