The Vaudoise signed her 75th World Cup podium on the Reiteralm on Thursday. Big blow on the other hand for the men: Alex Fiva was involved in a fall just before the finish and missed the final.
An attack on the last meters paid off for Fanny Smith: the Vaudoise took 2nd place in the women’s ski cross event on the Reiteralm on Thursday after a photo finish. This is a 75th World Cup podium for the champion, who is narrowly ahead of Canadian India Sherret. Hannah Schmidt, another Canadian, signed the 4th victory of her career.
Talina Gantenbein, 3rd in the Austrian resort last year, tried to attack too much and fell in the quarter-finals.
Among the men, a big blow for Alex Fiva. The Grison had set out for qualification, but a fall in the semi-final by Swede Fredrik Nilsson after riding through a gate picked him up in the process and both fell badly just before the finish line. Long on the ground, the Olympic vice-champion was finally able to get up, but skipped the grand final and therefore finished 4th. Tobias Baur and Sandro Lohner failed in the quarters. Romain Détraz stopped in the 8th.
The German Florian Wilmsmann signs his second victory of the winter, ahead of the Frenchman Melvin Tchiknavorian and the surprising Italian Yanick Gunsch, until now never better than 21st.
