After the big blow Carlos Baleba a few years ago, Lille is betting on a new talent from Cameroon.
Carlos Baleba left a succulent aftertaste at LOSC. One season after having poached him from the Brasseries du Cameroonthe Lille club sold the then 19-year-old midfielder (he is now 21) to Brighton in August 2023 for the tidy sum of 27 million euros.
This year, the Mastiffs may have their new golden goose with the Cameroonian revelation of the last CAN U17 2023, Stéphane Noumbissie. Aged 18, just like his elder Baleba when he arrived in Francethe young defender has in fact signed for four and a half seasons, LOSC announced in a press release on its official website.
“LOSC formalizes today the arrival of the young Cameroonian defender, Stéphane Noumbissie (18 years old), from AS Dauphine FC. International in all youth categories with the Indomitable Lionceaux, he is committed to the Club until 2029 and initially joins the Lille Pro 2 group.”
Lille knights its new Cameroonian jewel
Having passed through the U20 and U23 youth categories, the boy with an imposing physique (1.90m) is capable of playing in the center as well as on the sides. Intelligent in his movements, he has a large margin of progress, has dubbed the northern team, which has won the defeat of several other contenders.
Questioned by the LOSC website, Noumbissie did not shy away from his satisfaction at going pro:
“I am very proud and happy to join LOSC, a French elite club. Becoming a professional footballer was a dream that came true today, and my first objective is to quickly succeed in my integration and to bring as much as possible to the club.”
