Does this name mean anything to you? No wonder! In addition to being a promising young player, Tom Digbeu played in Pro B, during the first season of Stade Rochelais in the antechamber of Betclic Élite. Despite his young age, Tom has already traveled a lot. Trained in Spain, in one of the biggest European clubs, position 2 completed all his youth classes at FC Barcelona. Still in U18 but with 16 matches with the Barca reserve team, which plays in the second division, Tom decided to leave for the Lithuanian first division where he played a full season with an average of 8 points and 1.2 assists in 17 minutes.
After a stint in the Australian premier division, the Franco-Spanish flew to the United States in the G-League the following season, before returning to Europe that same year to play under the colors of Alliance Sport Alsace (Pro B) where he has a very good season with a fairly impressive stat line: 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists in 26 minutes at 30% from three points, for 15.8 rating. Signed by the Gran Canaria club at the end of 2023, position 2 is loaned to Menorca, in the Spanish second division.
Without a club at the start of the season, Tom wanted to wait for the right project before committing and therefore joins Stade Rochelais Basket until the end of the season, following the departure of Sam Sessoms and Allen Flanigan. Talented, athletic and aerial, Tom will bring a lot of offensive intensity to the La Rochelle squad. Endowed with great driving qualities but also shooting skills, Tom therefore provides reinforcement on the La Rochelle back lines.
Tom’s first words
“I had a very good conversation with the management and staff of the Club, I hope I can help the team as much as possible. It’s a good opportunity for me to join Betclic Elite, I’m very happy to come back and play in France. It went well for me, I hope I can have the same impact this year! “
Coach Cortey’s reaction
“We are happy to welcome him! The idea is to densify our back line and in particular on position 2, because we had lost that, following Allen’s injury. We wanted to find a player capable of putting points, with athletic qualities to be able to match the intensity of Betclic Elite. Tom will help us a lot on the recovery game. He is an athlete who runs and a player who loves the Spanish game, all terrain. He is very strong in one-on-one situations, he can unblock situations on his own, but he can also create for others. We can’t wait to welcome him. “
