Backcombing.
The draw (2-2) between Chelsea and Bournemouth left Enzo Maresca, coach of Blues, in all its states. At the heart of the controversy: the non-dismissal of David Brooks after a hair pulling on Marc Cucurella. In the second half, the Bournemouth winger seemed destined for a red card for his gesture, but referee Robert Jones, despite a pitchside consultation at the request of the VAR, maintained his initial decision: do not exclude the player. A first in the history of the Premier League, where a referee, after a call to VAR, rejects an exclusion for violent conduct.
Two different opinions
At the microphone of Sky Sports, Maresca could not digest: « If there is no intention to play the ball, it is red. They must explain this decision. » The coach regrets an inconsistency in the interpretation of dangerous gestures : « Brooks’ intention was to go after Cucurella. I hope we have better luck with refereeing in the future. » On the side of CherriesAndoni Iraola, Bournemouth coach, has a very different opinion: « It wasn’t violent. It’s a light yellow. Brooks simply wanted to stop the counterattack. »
It might be time to cut all that.
