According to Turkish media Aksam, Michy Batshuayi (31) is attracting interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are looking for a striker to strengthen their squad ahead of the winter transfer market. The Galatasaray striker has therefore become a target, with West Ham intending to complete a loan deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Michy Batshuayi has been the prototypical nomadic player throughout his professional career. Originally from Brussels, he spent his early years in Belgium, going through the academies of five clubs before joining the Standard de Liège training center. The experienced striker gained notoriety during his time at Olympique Marseille before Chelsea signed him.
However, Batshuayi endured a frustrating spell at Chelsea, going through several loan spells before joining Turkey in 2021. Since then, the 31-year-old has moved on to three of Turkey’s biggest clubs, playing for Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, with his last transfer dating back to the summer transfer window.
Interesting option
The Belgian international, with 56 caps, has been used intermittently, totaling just 811 minutes of play in his 27 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 2 assists. However, Batshuayi remains an attractive option on the market, with West Ham United among the clubs potentially interested in his services in the winter window.
West Ham’s interest in Michy Batshuayi is surprising but understandable. Although the veteran striker has had his ups and downs during his professional career, the Hammers do not have any big-name strikers in their squad, with the exception of Danny Ings. Thus, several candidates, including Jhon Duran, are also on West Ham’s radar.
However, Batshuayi would be a low-cost, low-risk signing for West Ham in this winter transfer window. The Hammers do not want a permanent deal and will look to sign the Belgium international on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.
A taste of unfinished business
At 31, Batshuayi may feel like he has unfinished business in the Premier League after his frustrating spells at Chelsea and Crystal Palace. So it will be interesting to see if he makes his return to England by joining West Ham in the coming days.
