Although Hugo Broos’ journey in Africa, notably with the 2017 CAN in Cameroon and his recent performance in South Africa, is marked by success, his time in Algeria leaves a less glorious mark.
In a recent interview, the South African coach did not mince his words, describing his Algerian adventure as “the worst mistake of his life”.
“They don’t have a good mentality at all. I had a lot of problems. I was in two clubs. The first time four months, the second time three months. So it was a bad experience”, he said in the program ‘Talents d’Afrique’, comments relayed by Afrik-Foot.
From July 2014 to February 2015, Broos led JS Kabylie and NA Hussein Dey, but tensions with club presidents and supporters quickly spoiled this experience.
The Belgian technician mentions difficulties in imposing his vision of the game, highlighting a lack of cohesion and a “bad mentality” of local players.
His record, although not catastrophic, does not reflect the harmony necessary for real achievements. After only a few months in each club, Broos now prefers to forget this passage of his career.
