The cameras of video protection will they finally see the light of day Thourottein the Oise? The mayor (PCF), Patrice Carvalho, has in any case just announced their arrival for the summer of 2025, during his greeting ceremony to the residents.
14 “first” cameras should be installed in this town of more than 4,500 souls by the summer season, which until then had none.
Cameras to monitor municipal buildings
“If this project has dragged on, it is because we have been waiting for a long time for state subsidies, which have still not reached us,” explained the mayor. These installations are costed at 70,000 euros for the municipality, with a subsidy of 20,500 from the Hauts-de-France regional council.
These video protection cameras will be installed near two municipal sites: the parking lot of the Édouard Pinchon village hall, as well as the Jacky Iodice esplanade, near the town hall, with a view of the Joseph Onimus school group and the Marcel Cerdan sports complex. .
But while it has not even begun, the deployment of these cameras is already debated in Thourotte.
“They won’t solve everything”
“Not everyone agrees about this technology. For some, the city should be crisscrossed and for others, the effectiveness of the cameras remains to be demonstrated,” declared the mayor, himself not really convinced by such a device.
-What is certain is that they will not solve everything. In neighboring towns, offenders have often adapted by vandalizing equipment and making sure they are unidentifiable. From this point of view, I remain convinced that a more active presence of the gendarmerie forces would be necessary and more effective.
For Florian Dumoulin, opposition municipal councilor, “the problem is that this is announced as video protection for residents, whereas these are municipal sites which will be secured”.
Although he recognizes that this is a “very good thing”, the “independent” elected official criticizes the mayor for not installing these cameras as close as possible to homes“to fight against burglaries”.
“They waited for the elections to approach”
“We were never told that there would be surveillance cameras for public spaces,” denounces this former majority member of Thourotte. “We have been talking about installing cameras in the city for years but nothing was ever done”.
The subsidy from the Region was paid in 2023 to the municipality. So the question is: why weren't the cameras installed sooner? I think they waited until the 2026 municipal elections approached to announce this video protection.
The mayor of Thourotte, however, insisted: “this system is a start, we will study the coverage of other districts”.
