Algeria Football – After playing a very bad trick on Algeria, RS Berkane could experience a real nightmare thanks to a brother neighbor of Algeria.
Tunisian technician Maïn Chaâbani, currently at the head of the Berkane Renaissance (RS Berkane), could soon leave the Moroccan club to take charge of the Tunisian national team and provide a huge service to Algeria. This situation represents a considerable loss for the Moroccan club, which saw in Chaâbani a coach capable of achieving good results, particularly in continental competition.
The choice of a local coach for the position of Tunisian coach stems from several factors, notably the delicate financial situation of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF). With a deficit estimated at $2.5 million, the FTF finds itself unable to recruit a foreign technician, despite attempts to attract names like Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz. This led to a change of strategy in favor of a Tunisian coach.
Among the candidates to replace the former coach, several renowned Tunisian technicians are expected, such as Radhouane Lajref, former captain of the Espérance Sportive club in Tunis, and obviously Maïn Chaâbani. The choice of the latter would be seen as a return to basics for the Tunisian selection, which has always favored local coaches. Chaâbani, recognized for his experience within Berkane, could bring his expertise and knowledge of Tunisian players.
The challenge for Tunisia is to maintain its good performances in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Currently, the Carthage Eagles occupy first place in their group with 10 points, two lengths behind Namibia.
