The FFME and the LPO unite for a practice of climbing that respects biodiversity

Sunday January 12, on the occasion of the Climbing Show, the FFME and the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) signed a partnership agreement aimed at promoting respectful cohabitation between wildlife and climbing practitioners. in a natural environment.

Climbing in a natural environment constitutes a historic practice for the FFME, part of a desire to exercise the discipline within an environment that it wishes to preserve. Major players in natural sites, the territorial structures of the FFME (leagues, territorial committees and clubs) play an active and responsible role in their conservation.

Such an excursion into nature is an incursion into a living environment. Often invisible, but always present, wildlife is all around us. Chamois, ibexes, falcons, eagles… Many animals feed, reproduce and find refuge in spaces essential to their survival. Some species are more sensitive to disturbance than others, and must therefore be given special attention when going out.

In this context, the aim is to enable everyone to better understand development issues while respecting those of preserving biodiversity. By signing this agreement, the FFME and the LPO undertake to collaborate on several strategic aspects:

  • Promote dialogue and conciliation between their territorial structures, particularly in the face of possible difficulties encountered regarding cohabitation with wildlife.
  • Define areas presenting strong sporting and/or ecological challenges.
  • Take biodiversity issues into account in the development of climbing activities, via appropriate specific actions (e.g. temporary closure of certain sectors in the event of nesting of a protected species).
  • Co-construct and disseminate educational content allowing better consideration and knowledge of biodiversity in the context of climbing activities.

This agreement, the objective of which is to anchor itself as closely as possible to territorial realities, will thus make it possible to strengthen the initiatives already undertaken by the local structures of the FFME and the LPO.

“We are delighted with this partnership with the LPO, which symbolizes a strong commitment on our part to preserving access to natural sites while being active in environmental protection. Together, we will show that it is possible to combine the practice of climbing and respect for biodiversity. » specifies Alain Carrière, president of the FFME.

« This collaboration between the LPO and the FFME demonstrates our common desire to promote sporting practices that take into account the fragility of ecosystems. I invite the Ministry of Ecological Transition and that of Sports, Youth and Community Life to ensure that this exemplary approach can be extended to other outdoor activities. » shares Allain Bougrain Dubourg, president of the LPO.
