Great start for the French in New Delhi this Tuesday. Toma Junior Popov qualified for the second round of the Indian Open, Super 750 tournament, by defeating the Japanese Kenta Nishimoto (14th in the world) in three sets. After a tight first round which he let slip despite his recovery to 20-20 while he was trailing 18-20, the eldest of the Popov siblings (26 years old, 18th in the world) immediately took the upper hand in the second set and was then no longer worried about the game. He was able to play his game and finally won well enough (20-22, 21-10, 21-14) to reach the second round, where he will face Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu (20th in the world) on Wednesday.
