DENVER – Scott Wedgewood was at practice Monday and will be available for Tuesday’s home duel against the New York Rangers (9 p.m. ET; KTVD, MSG, ALT, SNO, SNE, SN1, SN360).
“He’s back,” Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. We have a busy schedule coming up, so we need two guards. And he’s done a good job for us so far, so we’re excited to have him back. »
Wedgewood has missed the last five games due to an ankle injury he suffered in a Jan. 2 duel against the Buffalo Sabers, when the Avalanche staged an impressive comeback to win 6-5 .
“I’m still having some issues (with my ankle), but luckily it’s nothing that’s going to keep me out long term,” Wedgewood said. I felt like I had suffered a sprain as soon as Matt [Sokolowski]our sports therapist, arrived (on the ice).
“All the bad words were going through my head, because I thought I was going to have to be away for a long time. I couldn’t put any weight on my leg when it happened. »
Forward Zach Benson fell on Wegdewood’s left leg after being pushed. Benson then got up and scored while Wedgewood was lying on the ice.
“I didn’t know where the puck was or what happened. I felt the puck go under me, but I wasn’t sure, said the goalie. We might not have come from behind and probably wouldn’t have won that game if we hadn’t been frustrated by that situation. Credit to the guys who avoided the penalty box. They took their frustration out on the scoreboard, and we came out of there with two points. »
-Wedgewood is 4-2-0 with a 2.35 goals-against average and .917 save percentage with the Avalanche since being acquired from the Nashville Predators in a trade on 30 november.
Furthermore, defender Samuel Girard will miss a third consecutive game on Tuesday due to an upper body injury. The Quebecer collected 18 points (two goals, 16 assists) in 42 games this season.
“He’s not ready,” Bednar said. His case is evaluated on a daily basis. »
Forwards Miles Wood and Valeri Nichushkin and defenseman Oliver Kylington skated away from the group Tuesday.
“They’ll probably still be on the sidelines for a while, but we’ll see how it progresses,” Bednar said simply.
